Membership Information- Can anyone attend your meetings?
Everyone is welcome to any of our meetings. We are a public club, but we especially invite those that live and work in the Innsbrook area due to where we meet.
- Where do you meet?
Our meetings held on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Tuesdays of each month in Conference Room B of the Markel Essex Building, 4521 Highwoods Parkway in Innsbrook. Click here for directions.
- How do I sign-up?
We invite you to attend a few meetings to check out both the flow/process of Toastmasters meetings, and to see if our membership is the type of team you would like to work with. Then when you are ready, you can fill out a very simple application.
- What are the costs?
The one-time New Member fee is $20, International dues are $4.50/mo and our club dues are $2.00/mo. Dues are collected in October & April for a six month period, and are prorated the other months. So if you joined in December, it would be $20+ $18 + $10 = $48
- What are the goals of Toastmasters and your club?
We strive to enable each member to set and work toward their own goals. There are two tracks you can follow; leadership or communication. You can also work toward them simultaneously. The areas we work on include speaking skills - both for planned speeches and impromptu, evaluating/coaching others, running effective meetings, leadership, and listening skills. We find all things we do in Toastmasters map over into our jobs enabling us to be more effective and more self confident.
- How can I expect to grow my presentation and leadership skills?
We start with a manual of 10 speeches (outlines of specific skills to use are provided, but the subject is your choice), each building on the previous to enable us to learn how to create and deliver an effective speech. You may choose to have a mentor to provide suggestions and coaching prior to your speech. Following the speech your assigned evaluator will provide you with both a written and an oral evaluation. Club members will also provide short written feedback comments. This way you will know what you did well, and what you will want to work on for your next speech. Leadership skills are developed as you take on different roles during meetings (Toastmaster, General Evaluator, etc), and as a club officer if you wish to serve.
- Anything else I should know?
Just come with an open mind and the desire to learn!
We look forward to meeting you soon!
